Exciting discovery in Year 1!

Year 1 children were amazed to find footprints in their classrooms on Wednesday morning. A creature had stepped in mud and paint and walked round the Year 1 classrooms! The children decided the footprints must have been made by a dinosaur which started our new topic, Dinosaur Planet, with plenty of excitement. The dinosaur even made a nest and laid an egg….

Alien lands at Richard Lee Primary!

Year 1 were astounded to find a space rocket, complete with alien who we think had crash-landed, on the school fence last week. This exciting discovery launched our new topic ‘Moon Zoom!’. In this topic we will be finding out about a famous person who has been to the moon and what materials are needed to make things like space shuttles.

Exciting Memory Box launch

sam_6309Year 1 launched their new history based topic ‘Memory Box’ with a visit from Mrs Ridgway. She told the children what life was like when she was a little girl. The children were shocked to hear that she didn’t have a TV, and that she didn’t have a computer or laptop to play with or use. We will be using our senses to find out more about what life was like in the past. A big thank you to Mrs Ridgway for a really entertaining morning that amazed and astonished the Year 1 children.

Autumn Day

We have been learning all about the changing seasons in Year 1 and the children enjoyed our ‘Autumn Day’.sam_6213 sam_6214 sam_6217 After collecting the beautiful fallen leaves Year 1 asked themselves the question – are all leaves the same?

sam_6228 sam_6229We looked closely and found that they certainly weren’t. The leaves were different colours, different sizes and even different on their edges. By observing closely we were able to answer our question.
