A new topic: Muck, mess and mixture!

It has been a very fun first week back after our half term holiday! We began our new learning project called “Muck, mess and mixture”!

We spent one day exploring different messy materials. We mixed wallpaper paste, cornflour and jelly as well as having a go at painting, moulding with clay and making marks in shaving foam. Lots of exciting adjectives were thought of that day!

Also this week we began our new story; ‘Pumpkin Soup’ by Helen Cooper so, of course, we had to make some pumpkin soup ourselves.

In groups we scooped out the pumpkin seeds and added the herbs and spices to our big saucepan.  The soup bubbled away on the hob as we continued our learning in our classrooms and later we tried the soup for a snack. Some children thought the pumpkin soup was really tasty, others weren’t so keen.

Have you ever cooked with pumpkins at home?

Looking at healthy eating in Science!

This week in Science we have been thinking about how to eat healthily. We looked at the different food groups.

We learnt that we should try to eat lots of fruit and vegetables, but it is healthy to have a mixture of food from all of the groups to make sure we are getting all the things we need from our food to keep us well and help us grow.

Have you been eating healthily at home? Let us know what you have been eating. Do you think it was healthy?

Poetry Week in Year 2

This week Year 2 have enjoyed listening to and creating poems.

We loved listening to Michael Rosen perform some poems. What do you think about this one?

We have also  been using alliteration in our poems to make them more interesting. What words can you think of that begin with the letter ‘s’. Can you make a poem only using these words?
